syntactic 0.8.0 (2026-06-03)

Major changes:

  • makeNames: Added Greek character support. Greek letters (α–ω, Α–Ω) are now transliterated to their spelled-out ASCII equivalents (e.g. α → "alpha", Δ → "Delta").
  • makeNames: Consolidated 59 individual chartr() calls for Latin-1 character transliteration into a single call, improving performance on large vectors.
  • makeNames: Changed non-alphanumeric replacement pattern from [^[:alnum:]] to [^A-Za-z0-9] to avoid locale-dependent behavior with foreign characters.

Bug fixes:

  • .sanitizeAcronyms: Fixed a regex where [mi|nc|pi|r]RNA used a character class instead of alternation, causing multi-character RNA-type prefixes (miRNA, ncRNA, piRNA) to not be recognized. These are now correctly handled alongside mRNA and rRNA.
  • .syntactic: Fixed a truncation bug in the third word-boundary regex where .+ at the end of the pattern consumed trailing string content without capturing it in the replacement, silently discarding characters after the first lowercase letter following a multi-uppercase acronym.
  • .kebabCase: Now calls internal .snakeCase() instead of the exported snakeCase() S4 generic, consistent with how .dottedCase() works, and avoiding unnecessary name-processing overhead.

syntacticRename changes:

  • Renamed files whose stems start with non-alphanumeric characters other than ., _, ~, or $ are no longer skipped. This enables renaming of files with Jira-style names (e.g. [PROJ-123] ticket description.txt).
  • Added lowerExt = FALSE parameter to optionally lowercase file extensions during rename.
  • Microsoft Office temp files (stems starting with ~$) are now skipped during rename, in addition to the existing hidden-file guards (. and _ prefixes).
  • Removed the pre-tolower() step applied to file stems before calling the naming function. CamelCase stems like loadSingleCell.R are now handled correctly by the word-boundary engine (e.g. → load-single-cell.R with kebabCase) rather than being flattened to lowercase first.
  • dryRun = TRUE now returns the computed from/to path mapping instead of empty character vectors, enabling programmatic inspection of planned renames.

License changes:

  • Switched from AGPL-3.0 to Apache-2.0.

  • Modernized tooling: removed per-package .lintr in favour of global ~/.lintr; added air.toml; migrated to roxygen2 8.0 (Config/roxygen2/version).
